Congratulations to Epiphone's Rina Katahira whose debut single was released on August 7. The Fukushima, Japan based singer-songwriter caught the attention of the nation when she won the "Special Recognition Award" at the 2011 Senko Riot Festival and Rina has seen her career skyrocket ever since. Her debut single was released on August 7 on the Pony Canyon label and the reception for her debut album has been tremendous. Her debut single, "Night In the Summer," has been in regular rotation over 47 FM pop stations. Rina's main guitar is an Epiphone Masterbilt DR500MCE and both Rina's single and her Masterbilt have been on display at popular Japanese music store Tsutaya Shibuya in Japan.
Epiphone President Jim Rosenberg visited the Tokyo showroom in Epiphone last spring to welcome Rina to the Epiphone family.
"Epiphone is proud to add Rina Katahira to our Epiphone family of artists and we welcome her as our first official female artist in Japan," said Rosenberg. "At Epiphone, we value and appreciate Japan's long and rich musical culture and love for guitars. We look forward to working closely with Rina for many years to come as well as continuing to provide strong support for Japanese artists now and in the future."
Rina is currently promoting her single on television and in concert. The single reached #9 on the Billboard Japan Hot 100 this week. And Tokyo FM recently sponsored a contest offering winners the chance to perform "Night In the Summer" with their very own Epiphone AJ220S. Check out the photos and video and congratulations to Rina for her fantastic debut!
