Nashville based musician Jim Oblon dropped by Epiphone Headquarters in Nashville on Friday. Jim was checking out the Epiphone Limited Edition Elitist "1966" Custom Riviera so we plugged it into a Century amplifier, turned on a video camera and let him go.
Oblon has gained national attention as guitarist, drummer, and vocalist in Paul Simon's band as well as for his contributions on bass, drums, and guitar to Simon's latest album, So Beautiful or So What. But there's more to this Nashville session ace than being a sideman. Jim's own project, Sunset, is available now and features keyboardist Larry Goldings (Robben Ford, The Michael Landau Group, John Scofield) and drummer Jim Keltner (Bob Dylan, Sheryl Crow, Traveling Wilburys). The blues-based album was recorded with the trio playing together in one room and the energy and intensity created by this performance-style recording approach yields tracks that literally seem to pop off the disc.
