History Style, Modern Sound
Epiphone's new Dove PRO, Hummingbird PRO, and EL-00 PRO are exactly the kind of guitars founder Epi Stathopoulo imagined his "House of Stathopoulo" should be known for: beautiful instruments that are affordable to any musician. And each made with a classic look and powered by the latest technology.
Epiphone first made its mark in the music business by first designing and then perfecting the modern acoustic guitar. And today, Epiphone's collection of "PRO" Acoustic/Electric guitars are creating new standards among pro's and pro's at heart. The Dove PRO, Hummingbird PRO, and EL-00 PRO each offer solid wood tops and superior acoustic pickups.
The classic Dove style acoustic guitar first introduced at the legendary Gibson and Epiphone factory in Kalamazoo in 1962 became one of the first acoustic guitars to become a recognized rock and roll icon. Now, both beginners and professionals can enjoy the classic sound of The Dove plugged in with the Fishman™ Sonitone™ soundhole preamp and Fishman™ Sonicore™ pickup system.
The Dove PRO Acoustic/Electric has a beautiful Violinburst color finish and features a Solid Spruce top with 5-ply white and black binding. The body back and sides are made from select Maple for a punchy, bright tone. The hard maple 25.5" scale neck has a SlimTaper™ "D" profile and is glued to the body using a dovetail joint and Titebond™ glue.
The superb Sonicore™ pickup is set underneath the rosewood saddle. The Sonitone™ sound-hole preamp is an active preamp mounted in the soundhole with easy-to-access mounted rotary controls for Master Volume and Tone adjustment. Now you can make your adjustments during soundcheck and even fine adjustments on-the-fly during your set. The active preamp is powered by a single 9-volt battery. You can connect your Epiphone Dove PRO Acoustic/Electric to a PA or amp of your choice with a standard ¼" instrument cable. Batteries typically last up to 100 hours.
First introduced in 1960, the square shouldered Hummingbird quickly became a classic thanks in part to Keith Richards of The Rolling Stones, who used a Hummingbird for rhythm on early 'Stones hits like "Satisfaction," "Play With Fire," and "Under My Thumb." Today, the Hummingbird is still a go-to acoustic for rockers like Noel Gallagher, Sheryl Crow, and Kid Rock when they need a rhythm guitar with smooth action and a superb "woody" tone.
The Hummingbird PRO Acoustic/Electric features a Solid Spruce top. Spruce is a rich and complex tonewood that begins to breathe and improve with age. The body and neck are made from select Mahogany. The neck has a classic SlimTaper™ D profile and features a 24.75" scale and is attached to the body with a glued-in dovetail joint. The Rosewood fingerboard has pearloid parallelogram inlays. There is single ply white binding on the fingerboard and 5-ply white & black binding on the body top while the back of the body has single ply white binding. The Hummingbird PRO has the classic sloped dovewing headstock with the "Epiphone" logo in white.
On its own, the Hummingbird PRO Acoustic/Electric can drive an all-acoustic band or be front and center at a picking party with its sweet, balanced tone. Now with the Shadow™ ePerformer™ preamp and Shadow NanoFlex™ pickup system, The Hummingbird PRO can plug-in and hold its own on any size stage.
Epiphone and Shadow Germany have worked together for over a decade at perfecting ways to amplify an acoustic guitar on stage. The Hummingbird PRO is just one of many Epiphone guitars that feature a cutting edge pickup system that can handle any size gig and still produce an "acoustic" sound. The Hummingbird PRO's controls for the Shadow™ ePerformer™ Preamp are on the upper bout and include controls for Master Volume, Treble and Bass EQ, Mute, and a Dynamics control adjusted via a frequency curve. There is also a low batter indicator. The preamp is powered by two 2032 batteries. The output jack and strap locks are nickel and the Hummingbird PRO Acoustic/Electric is strung at the Epiphone factory with time-tested D'Addario™ Phosphor (12-53) strings. The Hummingbird PRO comes in a beautiful Faded Cherry color finish.
The Epiphone EL-00 PRO Acoustic/Electric guitar is a direct descendent of Epiphone's original line of flattops going back to the first golden age of acoustic guitars in the 1930s. The smaller "parlor" or "blues box" style acoustic guitar is favored by blues players of all eras for its compressed, woody tonal quality, short scale, and comfortable weight which makes it ideal for fingerpicking or the bark of a bottle neck slide.
Like all Epiphone PROs, the EL-00 PRO Acoustic/Electric features a Solid Spruce top that will sound even better with age. The top features 3-ply black and white binding. The Mahogany neck and body combined with the Solid Spruce top make for the perfect combination of tone, warmth and brilliance with a bigger sound than you would expect from a small guitar. The smaller body (15.5" wide at lower bout) and straight Rosewood bridge also influence the EL-00 PRO's distinctive voice which is more focused than a dreadnought and perfect for singers. The Rosewood bridge features a compensated imitation bone saddle. The 24.75" scale select Mahogany neck has a SlimTaper™ "D" profile with a 1.68" nut and is set with a hand-fitted dovetail neck joint using premium Titebond™ glue. The Rosewood fingerboard has a 12" radius, single ply black binding, 19 medium frets, and pearloid dot inlays. The tortoise shell style pickguard has a vintage metal "E" and the EL-00 PRO has a Vintage Sunburst color finish.
