Epiphone prides itself on making professional instruments that are affordable and the new Masterbilt Century Archtop Collection and classic Masterbilt Collection of flattop guitars offer player's exceptional quality and history at a half the price of most other professional acoustic instruments. These instruments are ready for any size stage. All Masterbilt instruments--both flattops and archtops--come with solid tops for superior sound, state-of-the art electronics, beautiful finishes, and are made with the same attention to detail as Epiphone’s first generation of Masterbilt instruments. Take a look at what each has to offer.
Masterbilt Century Archtop Collection
The new Masterbilt Century Collection was inspired by Epiphone's first generation of archtops from the 1930s. They were renowned for their wide tonal range, punchy volume and warm, woody tone. Following the invention of the electric guitar pickup, most archtop acoustic guitars were transformed into "electric" guitars.
The new Masterbilt Century Collection brings these worlds together with the eSonic HD preamp and Shadow NanoFlex HD Under-saddle pickup, allowing guitarists to plug in any Masterbilt Century archtop acoustic/electric into an amp or PA and hear their guitar's true acoustic tone on any size stage. The Masterbilt Century archtop also creates a totally new experience for flattop guitarists.
With a selection of different sizes and styles, the new Masterbilt Century Collection features all Solid Spruce tops with classic longitudinal bracing that will sound better the more they are played. The Collection also features a recreation of the historic Epiphone headstock with "mother of pearl" banner inlay, dual action truss rod, bone nut, historic aged nickel Epiphone 18:1 tuners, Ebony or Rosewood fretboards, and the cutting edge eSonic HD (High Definition) preamp system and Shadow NanoFlex HD Under-saddle pickup for true acoustic tone when plugged in.
The De Luxe and De Luxe Classic:
The Masterbilt Century De Luxe
(round hole) and De Luxe Classic
(f-hole) recreate the legendary Epiphone full-body archtop tone. With a 17" lower bout, the De Luxe and De Luxe Classic are loud, full, and commanding. Both feature Ebony fretboards and classic Art Deco styling on the fretboard and headstock.
Zenith and Zenith Classic:
The Masterbilt Zenith
(round hole) and Zenith Classic
(f-hole) are medium-sized 16" archtops with an arched Solid Spruce top with traditional Longitudinal Bracing and a laminated Flame Maple body. Both are ideal rhythm instruments for singers and soloists and feature an Ebony fretboard and classic inlay inspired by Epiphone's vintage collection.
Olympic: The Masterbilt Olympic Acoustic/Electric Guitar is a smaller-sized archtop perfect for soloists and solo singers with an arched Solid Spruce top with traditional Longitudinal Bracing, a Mahogany body, and classic f-holes.

The classic Masterbilt Collection is Epiphone's premier line of acoustic/electric flattop guitars recognized around the world for their beautiful sound and classic design.
Today, the Epiphone Masterbilt Collection features the DR-500MCE, the EF-500RCCE, and the stunning new AJ-45ME --all made with solid tonewoods and built using time-honored construction methods and materials like hide glue, bone nut and saddle, and hand-scalloped bracing-- the same methods used by the first generation of Epiphone luthiers. Plus, all Masterbilt guitars plug in using superior, German-engineered Shadow™ electronics and also feature 18:1 ratio Grover® Sta-Tite™ machine heads for superior tuning. And best of all, every Masterbilt instrument is set up at the factory using the state-of-the-art PLEK process for outstanding feel and playability.
The Masterbilt 2015 AJ-45ME
has a solid Sitka Spruce top in a Vintage Sunburst Satin finish with solid Mahogany back and sides. The top is supported by hand-scalloped Sitka Spruce braces and is set off by Mahogany kerfing along with a Rosewood bridge and a bone saddle. The AJ-45ME's shorter (24.75") scale length gives it a more powerful tone and a more "loose" feel with less string tension making it easier to play.
Plugged in, the AJ-45ME is powred by the Shadow® state-of-the-art Sonic™ preamp system with the revolutionary under-saddle NanoFlex™ low-impedance pickup. Discretely mounted inside the sound hole, the preamp has easy-access controls for Volume, Treble and Bass. The NanoFlex™ pickup is the only pickup that senses both the vibrations of the strings and the movements of the soundboard simultaneously. It's like having a microphone mixed with an under-saddle pickup!
The Masterbilt DR-500MCE
dreadnought features a solid Sitka Spruce top, hand-scalloped Sitka Spruce braces, solid Mahogany back and sides, and Mahogany kerfing, with a smooth cutaway. Like all Masterbilts, the DR-500MCE comes with a Rosewood bridge and bone nut and saddle. The 25.5" scale Mahogany neck joins the body at the 14th fret for superior resonance and is adorned with carefully cut "split-diamond" pearloid fretboard inlays.
The DR-500MCE comes equipped with the Shadow eSonic2™ preamp system with a built-in, easy-to-use tuner along with easy access controls for Master Volume, NanoFlex™ Tone, NanoMag™ Tone, and stereo blend controls plus a low battery indicator and a phase switch to help eliminate unwanted feedback. Under the bone saddle is Shadow's proprietary NanoFlex™ low-impedance pickup, which uses unique flexible sensing material that picks up string vibrations and top and body vibrations for a truly acoustic tone.
Complimenting the NanoFlex™ is the revolutionary NanoMag™ pickup mounted at the end of the fingerboard featuring three Samarian-Cobalt magnets and an integrated active circuit to capture a full spectrum of tone and a wide range of harmonics. With a choice of either 1/4" mono output, blending both pickups, or 1/4" stereo output splitting the two pickups, you have incredible flexibility and opportunities to create the perfect acoustic tone live.
The Masterbilt EF-500RCCE
might be one of the most unique and beautiful guitars in our Masterbilt Collection and features a classic "orchestra" body shape with a generous cutaway, a Solid Cedar top, solid rosewood back and sides, and a mahogany "V" style neck perfect for fingerpicking, and the eSonic2 pickup system.
The original Epiphone Masterbilt catalog included our founder's promise: "The possessor of an EPIPHONE instrument has the assurance that every possible precaution has been taken to build instruments for lifetime performance and pleasure."
