Classic Epiphone Tone with Solid Tonewoods and Modern Electronics

Since 1931, the Epiphone Masterbilt Collection has been the "House of Stathopoulo's" premier line of acoustic/electric guitars. Today, they are recognized around the world by both collectors and contemporary players for their beautiful sound and classic design. The Masterbilt Collection was founder Epi Stathopoulo's first major endeavor since inheriting the company from his father, Anastasios, that was all his own. And it was a risk, too.

Prior to the release of the Masterbilt Collection, Epiphone was known primarily for its professional banjos. But Gibson's new archtop and flattop guitars issued in the late 20s had made a big impression on players. And even though the Depression was getting deeper by the month, a new form of popular music, Jazz, was sweeping through New York, where archtop and flattop guitars had taken the place of the banjo as the main rhythm instrument for dance bands. Epi knew that to stay modern, Epiphone had to make great acoustic guitars that were both affordable and professional.

Today, the Epiphone Masterbilt Collection features the DR-400MCE, AJ-45ME, DR-500MCE, the EF-500RCCE--all made with solid tonewoods and built using time-honored construction methods and materials like hide glue, a bone nut and saddle, and hand-scalloped bracing. In other words, today's Masterbilt guitars are built with the same methods used by the first generation of Epiphone luthiers.

Modern Masterbilt guitars can also be played through any PA system using the German-engineered Shadow™ electronics for true acoustic sound. Plus, today's Masterbilts come with 18:1 ratio Grover® Sta-Tite™ machine heads or Epiphone Vintage Premium Open-Back machine heads for superior tuning and are set up at the factory using the state-of-the-art PLEK process for outstanding feel and playability. Masterbilt DR-500MCE

The Masterbilt DR-500MCE dreadnought features a solid Sitka Spruce top, hand-scalloped Sitka Spruce braces, solid Mahogany back and sides, and Mahogany kerfing, with a smooth cutaway. Like all Masterbilts, the DR-500MCE comes with a bone nut and saddle. The 25.5" scale Mahogany neck joins the body at the 14th fret for superior resonance and is adorned with carefully cut "split-diamond" pearloid fretboard inlays.

For true acoustic tone, DR-500MCE comes equipped with the Shadow eSonic2™ preamp system with a built-in, easy-to-use tuner along with easy access controls for Master Volume, NanoFlex™ Tone, NanoMag™ Tone, and stereo blend controls plus a low battery indicator and a phase switch to help eliminate unwanted feedback. Under the bone saddle is Shadow's proprietary NanoFlex™ low-impedance pickup, which uses unique flexible sensing material that picks up string vibrations and top and body vibrations for a rich acoustic tone. Masterbilt EF-500RCCE

The Masterbilt EF-500RCCE feature a classic "orchestra" body shape with a cutaway for a guitar that's perfect for singer-songwriters. The Solid Cedar top has Abalone inlay around the soundhole with hand-scalloped Sitka Spruce braces, bone nut and saddle, and a Mahogany "C" style neck that's perfect for fingerpicking. The neck joins the body at the 14th fret and the headstock is adorned with the historic Epiphone "stickpin" headstock inlay.

Under the bone saddle is Shadow's proprietary NanoFlex™ low-impedance pickup. Unlike a harsh piezo like you'd find on budget acoustic models, this unique flexible sensing material features integrated active electronics that not only can pick up string vibration but also top and body vibrations as well for a truly acoustic tone not possible with piezo pickups.

Complimenting the NanoFlex is the revolutionary NanoMag™ pickup mounted at the end of the fingerboard. Exclusively from Shadow, the NanoMag features 3 Samarian-Cobalt magnets and an integrated active circuit to capture all the highs and lows, including a wide range of harmonics. With your choice of either 1/4" mono output blending both pickups or 1/4" stereo output splitting the two pickups, you have incredible flexibility and opportunities to create the perfect acoustic tone live.
