Our friends at Guitar World Magazine are about to publish a special collectors issue called The Wild & Weird History of the Electric Guitar! It's a must-read, 90-page historical look at the instrument we all love and features a superbly written 11-page spread on the history of Epiphone by Alan DiPerna.
In Casino Royale, Mr. DiPerna opens with the statement, "From a Greek immigrant's workshop to a top stakeholder in the global musical industry, Epiphone has placed its gear in the hands of rock?s most venerated players, including the Beatles, The Edge, Slash and even Les Paul" and then takes you on a stroll through the Epiphone timeline, from the Stathopoulo family to modern day Epiphone with insights from current Epiphone President Jim Rosenberg and Gibson President Dave Berryman.
Quotes are included from artists' like Zakk Wylde who says, "At one time Epiphone was the biggest guitar company in the world, bigger than Gibson. Bigger than everybody. They still make kick-ass guitars." and Paul McCartney who proclaims of his Epiphone's, "Their just my favorites. Simple as that." Of course if you are going to quote legendary guitarists, you have to include the great Les Paul who is quoted as saying, "I'd been a Gibson guy since 1928, but right then, in '41, was when I switched to Epiphone."
Some great photos are included as well. Look for your copy of The Wild & Weird History of the Electric Guitar! From Guitar World on newsstands near you soon. You can visit Guitar World on-line at www.guitarworld.com.
