Elvis Costello will bring his ‘Spectacular Spinning Songbook’ tour to the UK and Ireland in May 2012, the first time Declan has been back to his former homeland since, well, telling them he’d never be back.
“I don't care if I ever play England again. I don't dig it, they don't dig me," said a bummed out Elvis after the Glastonbury Festival in 2005.
But the Spinning Wheel heals all wounds (or as Nick Lowe sang, wounds all heels) and the tour, after all, is getting terrific reviews. Why stop now? Typically, Elvis opens each show with an overture of five rock and roll classics including nuggets by Mr. Lowe, Jonathan Richman, Chuck Berry, and The Rolling Stones. Members of the audience are then invited to spin a gigantic vaudevillian wheel and select the next song from a bevy of intriguing choices. Did we mention there’s a caged go-go dancer as well? A limited edition 3-disc (CD, DVD, 10" vinyl LP) live box set The Return Of The Spectacular Spinning Songbook!!! comes out December 6. Each set is individually numbered and signed and we’re assuming that Elvis will do the signing.
