Today is the late Rick Danko's birthday. The Band's bassist was one of rock and roll's great stylists and harmony singers and a big fan of Gibson and Epiphone basses.
Rick was one of the first to make great use of the tone control that you can still find on our Epiphone
EB-3. If you're fan of Rick's style, you should also check out the
Allen Woody Rumblekat which has a lot of the bubbly but biting tone that Danko used to help propel the Band's great albums and Bob Dylan's legendary electric tours in 1966 and 1974 which also saw Dylan using a
Riviera as his main axe.
There are lots of good clips of Rick showing off his style. Here's one that has more than a few nuggets from his never-ending bag of tricks. Check it out.
