(who are all, of course, also Epiphone fans
) should check out the BBC's new look at the Quarrymen which features a previously unseen photo credited to James L. Davis of John Lennon
hanging out with the fellows in Liverpool, possibly the same day John met Paul McCartney for the first time.
"We were all inspired by Lonnie Donegan's recording of "Rock Island Line," which came out at the end of '55," said Quarryman Rod Davis who eventually lost his job to Sir Paul. "I was inspired, as were tens of thousands of other kids in the UK, to pick up an instrument and try to thrash out a couple of chords. I do remember on one occasion arguing with John about playing rock 'n' roll. I just thought it was causing us trouble. I personally didn't like rock 'n' roll at the time, which is one reason why I drifted out of the Quarrymen." Perhaps they're discussing the merits of rock and roll in this photo. Check it out.
