stopped by Epiphone to talk with us about his new album, Driving Towards the Daylight,
his spring tour, and his signature Ltd. Ed. Epiphone Joe Bonamassa Les Paul Goldtop
Joe also brought along his new/old favorite--a 1960 Les Paul Standard
with a Bigsby that had all of us in a state of shock. But that was nothing compared to how we felt when Joe handed it over and said: "here, check it out."
Now you might think we're stretching the truth, but as much as the original 1960 Les Paul Standard was indeed a great looking and sounding guitar, Joe himself agreed with us that the Epiphone Joe Bonamassa Les Paul Goldtop was every bit a great Les Paul.
The neck, the weight, the feel, and most of all the sound--all the key elements--were there, big time
. They were both great guitars and both serious Les Pauls. It was inspirational all around, especially to hear Joe up close and realize his distinctive dark and creamy tone is all in his fingers.
It was also great moment to see the past, present, and future all in one room. We do indeed build 'em like they used to and as Joe said, "these guitars are meant to be played. And someday when I'm done, I'll pass them down."
Joe will be everywhere in 2012. Catch him.
