This weekend's annual
Sunset Strip Music Festival features
Black Label Society, Peter Murphy of Bauhaus and Love and Rockets, Quiet Riot, Dead Sara, and X. It's a great festival and a great tribute to the people behind the clubs that helped foster a vital part of rock and roll history that goes back to the '60s with Johnny Rivers and The Doors.
"They were great places to be free to express yourself," Exene Cervenka of X told the Orange County Register, "both as the audience and in the band, in any way you wanted. It was before the hardcore thing, with the moshpits and the regulated clothing and all of that, so it was always a free-for-all. It was exciting, thrilling, unpredictable, passionate and crazy. It was really out of this world, that whole situation back then." Look for highlights on Monday.
