This fall marks 61 years since the great Howlin' Wolf stepped into Sam Phillips's Memphis Recording Service (soon to be Sun Records) and cut his first sides with Ike Turner on piano including "Moanin' At Midnight," "How Many More Years," and "Howlin' For My Baby."
In the '60s, Wolf took an
Epiphone Casino to on tour on more than one occasion. Surviving footage of Wolf in-action bears little resemblance to the outlandish and floor bending shows of his youth where he would pound support columns, climb curtains, and leap into the audience yelling "the mighty Wolf knows!" But we'll take what we can get. Here's to the Mighty Wolf.
