Dave Grohl Brings Sound City to SXSWSince January, Dave Grohl of the Foo Fighters has been organizing all-star bands--dubbed the Sound City Players--to perform around the U.S. as part of his plan to bring together all the generations of rockers who recorded at Sound City, the legendary recording studio outside of LA that Grohl chronicled in the hit documentary, Sound City. The Sound City studio was the home to classic albums like Tom Pettty's Damn the Torpedoes, Nirvana's Nevermind, and hits by Fear, Guns N' Roses, Metallica, Neil Young, and Johnny Cash.

We already knew that Grohl might be the nicest fellow in rock and roll but what really got our attention was his bass of choice for these all star sessions, an Epiphone Jack Casady.  Now we hear that Grohl is bringing his all-star jam band to the SXSW music festival in Austin, Texas next week featuring Stevie Nicks of Fleetwood Mac, John Fogerty, Lee Ving of Fear, Rick Nielsen of Cheap Trick, and Corey Taylor of Slipknot.  And the icing on the cake? The Meat Puppets will open (and no doubt, Curt Kirkwood will bring his Les Paul and quarter-pick on stage for the main event, too).

Get down to Austin and check it out and be sure to look for our exclusive interviews with SXSW attending Epi artists soon.
