Dwight Yoakam spoke to Music Radar
about his new album, 3 Pears
("It's about joy"), and how he once again found his muse thanks to his Epiphone Casino.
"I wanted to get back to that special thing that I found in music when I was 15, 16 years old; that feeling I had when I started to perform early on, as well as when I was in my 20s and put a band together in LA."
Dwight goes into depth about his love for his Epiphone Casino
and what makes it so unique. "I just found the Casino and fell for it," says Dwight. "I like the archtop effect it has in that it's something of a hybrid of a solidbody electric and an acoustic. Those gritty, grungy, buzzy single-coil P90 pickups – and you know they pick up every weird light in the building. I have to turn away from the amp and turn it to the middle selector – and I use bridge position, too, just out of the sheer sonic violence of it. There's nothing else that sounds like it."
Check out Dwight's Limited Edition "Dwight Trash" Casino
("The Casino gave us everything Beatles, from just a little before Revolver onward
"), which Dwight helped design. It features Gibson USA P-90s, a beveled reverse Firebird(TM) headstock, and a hand signed certificate. "It's a great guitar," says Dwight, "and for those of you who have bought one, I wish you as much fun as I've had so far."
