Epiphone and the Heart of Muscle Shoals

01.25.2013
Epiphone and the Heart of Muscle ShoalsThis will be a great year for your musical education with Dave Grohl's documentary on Sound City Studios and the new documentary Muscle Shoals, which covers the legendary Alabama studio that was the wellspring to  hits by Etta James, Wilson "Wicked" Pickett, Epiphone's Lynyrd Skynyrd, Aretha Franklin, and the Rolling Stones among many.

Director Greg "Freddy" Camalier discovered Muscle Shoals on a road trip. "We wanted to take the southern route, and we would just drive 'til we got tired," Camalier told Rolling Stone. "We both knew some of the music that we loved all our lives was from there but had no idea of the magnitude."

Southern rock was born in Muscle Shoals in the hands of Duane Allman's ground breaking solo on Wilson Pickett's version of "Hey Jude" and the Stones's classic, "Brown Sugar" which came to life in the funky palace of sound.  Read more here and don't miss it when it comes to theaters later this year.
