It feels pretty great this morning--and a little bit strange, too--to hear that KISS, Nirvana, and the Replacements have all been nominated for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame along with Link Wray, the Meters, and the Zombies. Naturally we're happy because they made great music and Epiphone played a part in their story. For KISS, whose KISS Army Fan Club is celebrating its 40 year anniversary, Epiphone is still front and center. But it does seem like time is quickly catching up to us. What's next for rock and roll?
Speaking of KISS, you can still get a spot on the KISS Kruise III, a must for hardcore KISS fans. Visit their website for details. One of the highlights of our year long celebration of Epi's 140th Anniversary was the world-wide release of the Epiphone Tommy Thayer "Spaceman" Les Paul Outfit. Our colleagues at Gibson Brands in Germany shot this terrific interview with Tommy this summer in Copenhagen. Check it out.
"I wanted to do a guitar just like my Les Paul Standard," said Thayer, "I contacted Epiphone President Jim Rosenberg and we replicated it exactly right down to the very last detail. It sounds amazing...it's balls to the wall like any other guitar I play."
Congratulations to KISS, Tommy Thayer, Dave Grohl, and all our other Epi-loving nominees. See you at the ceremony in New York City next spring.
