Pete Townshend Receives Les Paul AwardCongrats to The Who's Pete Townshend who received the Les Paul Award at the annual TEC Awards ceremony during the NAMM conference.  Pete was also saluted by Epiphone's Paul McCartney and by Eric Burdon of the Animals and Mick Jagger.  The event was emceed by John Sebastian of the Lovin' Spoonful. Townshend recalled Les in an interview backstage.

"He was a fabulous personality, and a very kind man," Townshend told the Los Angeles Times. "He gave me one of his guitars once -- one of his home guitars. I only met him four or five times, but I miss him terribly. He was such a fabulous man, and really, really a great genius and innovator."

If you're not familiar with Scoop or some of Townshend's other collections of home demos, check them out.  They give great insight not only to Pete's compositional process but his deft handling of recording tools as well.

“For me, probably the biggest moment was with (The Who's) Quadrophenia, where I was recording on eight-track at home," recalled Townshend, "and a lot of those eight-track backing tracks with synthesizers, many guitars, piano, keyboards and things like that were actually used on The Who’s albums. We all have Les Paul to thank for that.”
