Little Kids Rock and Epiphone brought the holiday gift-giving season to Mt. View Elementary School in Antioch a little early this year when they surprised a classroom of 4th graders with a visit from artist Emmy Russell along with enough new Epiphone acoustic and electric guitars for the entire school music program including an Epiphone Dot
, Les Paul
, and PRO-1 Classic
3/4 size guitars.
"I got my inspiration to play from my Grandmother," said Emmy who is the granddaughter of country music legend Loretta Lynn. "I used to go on the road with her when I was a little girl and I loved it. When started writing songs, she told me, 'just keep at it'
!" When a student asked Emmy how many songs she has written and she replied, "Oh..around 100," there was an audible gasp came from the kids. The class helped Emmy perform holiday classics as well as the Carter Family's "Will the Circle Be Unbroken."
In 2018, Little Kids Rock® will continue their initiative with Epiphone to bring music to back to public schools with more special events and concerts. "Through our relationship with Epiphone, Little Kids Rock will be empowered to serve more kids than ever before," says Little Kids Rock CEO, David Wish, who founded the nonprofit in 2002 after leaving his job as an inner-city first grade teacher. "This synergy will also enable us to provide our kids with quality instruments just like their favorite musicians use--an opportunity that they may not have otherwise had."
Since 2002, Little Kids Rock has enriched the lives of more than 500,000 public school students by empowering and equipping music teachers to launch Modern Band music programs. Modern Band music programs focus on teaching kids popular music like rock, pop and hip hop. This exciting new initiative with Epiphone will ensure that Little Kids Rock continues its goal to restore, expand, and innovate music education in public schools across the nation.
