Don’t miss Premier Guitar’s Rig Rundown with John Bohlinger and guest Epiphone Signature Artist Richie Faulkner of Judas Priest who shows off his critically acclaimed (and much-used) Richie Faulkner Flying V Custom Outfit.
"It’s pretty much identical to my Gibson," Faulkner tells Bohlinger, "but I can always tell the difference between all my Flying Vs. I have a (custom) white one with a bit of a snappier tone. You get to know them pretty quickly. The marker on the 12th fret comes from my original family name, Falconer. My family used to raise falcons for royalty and dignitaries. I’m looking now to get my falconry license just to carry on the tradition!"
Faulkner’s Epiphone Flying V Custom Outfit features EMG™ active pickups chosen by Faulkner, a Floyd Rose® tremolo and bridge and with R2 Locking Nut, Grover® Rotomatic machine heads, a Thin-C neck profile, and a custom designed gig bag.
"I used it all over the new record," Faulkner told Epiphone. "It held up well. The tuning was great. The sound was great... Right out of the box, man it was a lot of guitar. It was just shocking how good the guitar was and how much guitar was there. The Ebony fretboard and the inlays... everything! The quality of the instrument was mind blowing. And it held up in the studio with my older Gibsons. As I said, it's all over the new record (Firepower).”
