It’s a demanding checklist – but Epiphone’s Masterbilt AJ-500RC 12-Fret gets ticks in all the right boxes.

New for 2005, this stunning acoustic guitar takes the build quality and tone of a far more expensive instrument and offers it for a price that won’t require the services of a loan shark. Based on the existing AJ-500 R, this latest model is defined by the vintage V shape of its slotted peg head neck, which meets the body at the twelfth fret.

Not only does this look cool and give the Masterbilt a hard-as-nails neck join; it also provides a playing experience that’s faithful to the dreadnoughts of the 1920s and 1930s. That solid rosewood body also provides massive volume and classic tone (which will improve as the woods mature), while the natural satin finish and tasteful gold hardware are the icing on an irresistible package.
