You don’t mess with The Les Paul. Ever since it swaggered onto the scene back in 1958, everyone from Slash to Jimmy Page has throttled this legendary electric guitar. Its raunchy humbucker tone and endless sustain have seen it crowned the discerning headbanger’s choice, and it remains successful to this day. So why change it?

The Epiphone Les Paul Ultra answers that question in style. It looks like a Les Paul Standard.

It has the same pickup and bridge configuration. But when you pick this electric guitar up, you’ll never want to put it down. If the original LP had a drawback, it was the sheer weight required to provide all that sustain. The Ultra Les Paul addresses this with a series of hollow cavities placed throughout its mahogany body, shaving a stoop-correcting 5.5lbs off the bulk and bringing a sweeter, more acoustic flavour to the overall tone.

Comfort shouldn’t be at the expense of sound. So while the Ultra has a narrower nut, body contouring and a fast-playing mahogany neck – ideal for smaller guitarists – it still provides the warm punch of two alnico humbuckers running on angry. Bottom line... Heavy rock just got a whole lot lighter.
