The Assistant Controller will lead accounting, consolidation, reconciliation, and financial reporting responsibilities through hands-on work and the management and development of corporate accounting staff.  This role will also help to identify and understand relevant accounting issues and will be integral to the design and implementation of solutions to address the operational and financial needs of the organization.


Essential Functions

The primary responsibilities of the Assistant Controller include:

    Leading Gibson’s monthly accounting close process including the review and approval of general ledger journal entries as well as ensuring timely preparation and review of account reconciliations.

    Applying accounting concepts including transfer pricing and equity-method journal entries and consolidation entries related to domestic and international entities ensuring the proper elimination of intercompany sales, intercompany purchases, and intercompany profit in inventory. Will work together with the Financial Reporting Manager / OneStream Administrator to ensure proper elimination of intercompany transactions and currency remeasurement and revaluation.

    Overseeing and ensuring full reconciliation of intercompany receivable / payable accounts.

    Collaborating with Financial Reporting Manager on the preparation of accurate and complete financial statements and footnote disclosures.

    Fielding questions from external auditors and assisting with compilation of audit sample selections in support of an efficient, timely, and successful year-end audit.

    Designing, evaluating, implementing, and documenting new accounting procedures and processes as Gibson’s business evolves and its processes change.

    Assisting Financial Reporting Manager and other team members with purchase and divestiture accounting, due diligence audits, debt covenant compliance, borrowing base reporting, and other ad hoc accounting and reporting, as applicable and requested.

    Contributing to refinements and configuration of Microsoft Dynamics 365 ERP and OneStream Corporate Performance Management (CPM) system.

    Other duties as assigned.


Required Skills/Abilities


    Proven track record of creating robust analyses and reconciliations with supporting documentation.

    Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

    Solid interpersonal skills with proven ability to professionally develop and support staff.

    Ability to maintain effective business partner relationships at all levels of the organization.

    Strong collaborator, ability to delegate as appropriate, and solid project management skills.


Required Education and Experience


    Bachelor of Science in Accounting, required.

    5+ years of experience in general ledger accounting, preferably in a manufacturing company.

    Additionally, 2-3 years of public accounting experience, a plus.

    Certified Public Accountant (CPA), active or inactive, required.


Essential Knowledge


    Strong understanding of US GAAP and knowledge of accounting and finance operating principles.

    Intermediate to advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel.

    Must be able to work independently, manage multiple projects simultaneously, and organize workload to meet organizational timelines in a deadline-driven, growth environment.

Travel Requirements


    Potential travel to Gibson’s manufacturing and distribution locations may be required (~5%).
